Appreciation Cards, Kudo Wall And Kudo Box
Appreciation Cards, Kudo Cards
Everyone love to know that they are appreciated! So it's always a good idea to give a praise. Not only for huge out-performing, but for the daily small ones which helped as well. It only takes a few minutes to say "thank you" and it's well worth the effort.
While raising your employee's salaries will likely increase their motivation, the feeling is often short-lived. New research, however, finds that a simple "thank you" often has a much more lasting impact.
A study from The Workforce Institute at Kronos Incorporated showed that among workers who have received a pay raise in the past, 40 percent said it only improved their motivation and feelings of appreciation for six months or less, while 30 percent said it boosted those feeling for less than a month. The study indicates that day-to-day acts of gratitude and appreciation in the workplace are much more important.
The research discovered that receiving a "thank you" from their direct manager gives employees a great sense of satisfaction (55% of employees questioned). Overall, receiving positive feedback from fellow employees at all levels gave the greatest sense of satisfaction (70% of employees questioned).
Appreciation Cards aka Kudo Cards are a great and easy to use tool to show apprecentation. In the English-speaking parts is "Kudos" (coming from the Greek word: κῦδος (kydos) meaning "fame", "honour") a common exclamation for appreciation, comparable with the French "Chapeau!"
There are several tools available to give your teammate a Kudo: DIY Kudos from printable templates, ready to buy Kudos, and online services to send virtual Kudos.
A Kudo Card is a token or gesture of thanks. It is a written and public recognition of a colleague for something he or she has contributed to the team. The Kudo is not just given from the top down peer-to-peer, across departments and organisations. Instead, anyone can recognize someone else’s work. It’s a way to break down hierarchical limitations and to encourage everyone to offer instant feedback.
Kudo cards satisfy the Six Rules for Rewards. It works much better than bonuses and other forms of
financial motivation. They are the recognition of valued work, not financial incentives, that encourages intrinsic motivation within an organisation.
Bring some Kudo cards in your team. Lay them down on a table and see what might happens.

You can create a wall of kudos, proudly showing them all the time. Or you are building a “shout-out shoebox” – a Kudo box – in which you collect the kudos and then have monthly celebrations, where you read out the kudos. Or, you may choose to turn the Kudo Box into a raffle, giving away gift cards.
Kudo Box and Kudo walls nurture intrinsic motivation and gratitude.
